A winch-out is a rigging job before it is a pulling job. We look at how the vehicle went in, what the ground underneath is doing, and where the frame will take a strap, then pull along a line that brings it out the way it went. Hooking a recovery point at the wrong angle is how a stuck car becomes a bent one, so this part goes slower than it looks, on purpose.
Winter and early spring keep us busiest: black ice on a curve, a soft berm after a thaw, a driveway that turned to mud. If you are off the road but the vehicle is undamaged, stay put and keep off the throttle. Spinning the tires digs the car in deeper and turns a short pull into a long one.
